Moving Forward...
One Day at a Time

Summer Update

8/24/2018

This summer, ReCAST has been heavily focused on the ways we should be and will be serving youth for the next year.

More specifically:
  1. We worked within 3 ongoing summer camps to provide language and introduction to resiliency, stress management, and community/ population health to support the forward movement here in Flint, working with youth from ages 6 to 19.
  2. On July 20, external consultants traveled to Flint to support local youth serving individuals/agencies to develop/enhance a resiliency toolkit for use with children. Representatives from over twenty youth serving agencies attended the all day training session.

On July 19, we also hosted a strategic communications training to support area groups & organizations to disseminate their intended messages, using the 2017 ReCAST community assessment data as one of the anchoring points.

The community organizations that received ReCAST funds over the past year have had a number of focal communities they have served, and we are ensuring that we also have the evaluative data to accommodate the programming efforts of these groups, and that these groups will receive useful and clearly stated information about the trauma-informed aspects of their programs and practices.

There are a couple of intentional efforts we are planning to bring forward in September 2018:
  1. Update of the CASPER (The Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response): results from the November 2017 and July 2018 evaluations of resident community and behavioral health needs
  2. Community workshops to clearly (re)announce the direction of ReCAST for October 2018-September 2019, and solicit feedback from residents about the critical updates they would like to hear from us (and frequency).
  3. Update on the organizations that have been active with support from ReCAST funds
  4. Expansion of the team with capacity to provide workshops on the importance and practice of trauma-informed approaches (for clinical and non-clinical contexts)
  5. Continued availability for a ReCAST team member to provide such a workshop
  6. Date announcement for the next round of Community Resiliency Model workshops
  7. Updates of city initiatives that have been sponsored and will be renewed in the next year
